The Arid Sea

The Arid Sea formed in 1994 as the brainchild of Isaac Aubrey, and continued as a solo project until 2002 with a sound that consisted of a drum machine, keyboards, acoustic guitars, low end vocals and some noise. Prior to 2000, these 4-track recordings (which featured a variety of guest artists and friends) were circulated exclusively on cassette tapes, which worked well for many years, until the need to work with a constant group of people and further develop the sound became an imperative.
In 2002 Isaac paired with Michael Guillory, formerly of an East Coast band by the name of Kosova Republik, who had recently moved out to Seattle. Isaac had been playing bass for a local band called The Fall-Outs for a number of years and was dying to get back to writing music.  Michael then brought a few bass lines to the table and full songs were soon created around them. Before too long the Arid Sea had "Ringing," "Mercy Killing" and scads of little odds and ends to sort out. The only unfortunate factor being that the band was still limited to electronic drums.
A year or so passed with some talk of finding other musicians, but nothing much came of it until September of 2003. Isaac met musician Jeri Kay in San Francisco at a Current 93 show and they got to talking about bringing her on as a flute player. The sound at the time was still partially acoustic and a flute seemed like it might be a nice fit. He'd also recently made contact with Joey Maas (of Wormwood and more recently The Prids) who'd expressed interest in playing live drums. Suddenly, after so many years, the project found a life of its own.
The next 4 months were spent in the basement of a house trying to figure out what the band really sounded like. Much of the old material didn't transfer over well and the band found a need to take what worked and to leave the rest behind. Ultimately, the band was left with 6 songs that were promptly recorded as a new demo. Around the same time, The Arid Sea was offered its first show at the Catwalk in Seattle with Abney Park, which went remarkably well and served as the precursor to a great year of live shows with such artists as Bella Morte and Voltaire.
After having chiseled themselves down to a 3-piece, The Arid Sea released their gripping full-length debut New Roman Twilight in September 2005 through the band's own label, Deep Blue Recordings.  Having already received high acclaim from music journalists such as Mick Mercer, New Roman Twilight is available for purchase at www.TheAridSea.com with additional distribution through SINister Records, CD Baby and Amazon.com!
