SINister Records is an independent label out of the Pacific Northwest, and home of Seattle-based deathrockers, The Sins (who unleashed their debut album "The Beginning" on October 20, 2002), and dark ambient/electronic metal artist The Quantum Dots, whose full-length CD, "Inventing Reality." was released in August, 2003. SINister expanded its scope in 2005 by supporting acclaimed NYC goth/country act Ninth House, and has most recently signed on goth-rockers Jupiter Crash for the release of their next full-length, "The Skin Before the Art" (due out December 2006). SINister was born in the Fall of 2002, the brainchild of The Sins' ominous frontman, J. van Huisman and his particular antipathy toward the man-eating "majors" and the pop culture music industry in general. Initially a vehicle for the release of The Sins' debut album, the addition of partner-in-crime Kristina on the business-end of things, along with the signing of their 2nd band, The Quantum Dots, catapulted SINister toward a more ambitious goal. . . In short, the main function of SINister Records is to provide moderate promotional and financial support to fledgling and underground bands interested in releasing professional full-length albums - and also to provide distribution assistance to independent bands who have a self-released product ready for retail. We do not offer big fat financial recording advances (and collect repayment in blood for the rest of our natural lives), offer two-hundred page, 7-album contracts requiring artists to sign away their souls, or demand ownership of the copyrights in your bands' sound recordings. Nor do we make promises or blow sunshine and bullshit up anyone's skirt. The amount of effort you get out of SINister is directly proportionate to the amount of effort your band will put in. We do offer funding and support to hardworking bands that have already-recorded material that we like (and that falls within the genres that we represent), for mastering, manufacturing, artwork & layout, promotion & advertising, online distribution, and booking within the Northwest. Though we aren't always financially able to sign new bands, we will gladly work with a wide variety of self-released artists on getting more widespread distribution for their CDs through online retailers and physical stores, when possible. We vow to listen to all demos that find their way to our mailbox, and good, bad, or ugly – we do our best to respond. We look mostly for bands (and bands please pay attention here!) in the gothic rock, deathrock, darkwave, industrial, trance, gothabilly, horror-punk and other dark-alternative genres - because that's what we know best. Think your band will have us writhing on the ground in frenzied auditory bliss? We'd love to hear your demo. Impress us. |
